American Road Machinery

Our History

American Road Machinery, Inc. was founded by Emil J. Hank in July 1971. Emil was an innovator in the public works sector. Emil began as a welder with Good Roads Machinery in 1946. He advanced through the ranks eventually becoming Chief Engineer. Emil was a “hands on” engineer and manager and approached problems with the view point of the machine operators in mind. This experience translated well as he founded American Road Machinery, Inc. He worked closely with public works officials to translate their concerns and requirements into production improvements. Through his deep involvement in research and development, Emil made significant contributions in new designs for public works equipment in such areas as snow plow design, hydraulic power reversing plows, snow plow truck hitches, salt spreaders, central hydraulic systems and the first to offer a three stage leaf mulching machine. Emil was instrumental in developing the vacuum process of picking up leaves and litter. He helped adopt the vacuum concept to clean debris from catch basins by creating and designing job specific equipment.

Today over 38 years later, American Road Machinery, Inc. continues to innovate and offer industry leading products. Our line of “Tough Equipment” includes Leaf and Litter Collectors, Snow Plows and Hitches, Vacuum Catch Basin Cleaners, Asphalt and Salt Spreaders and Original Equipment Service Parts.
